UHI STEM Outreach Programme

UHI STEM Outreach Programme

Buchan Offshore Wind is delighted to support the UHI STEM Outreach Programme, which aims to inspire young people in the Highlands and Islands region to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects at school so they may ultimately develop the skills required to enter the Offshore Wind industry.

The success of the Buchan Offshore Wind project will depend on a skilled local workforce, which is why it is necessary to encourage early year and primary school learners now to promote economic growth in the future.

Our Supply Chain Manager Adam Hollis has recently attended an event meeting the newly recruited STEM outreach coordinators, as well as other industry partners at The Scotman’s Highlands and Islands Green Energy Conference in Inverness.

Adam Hollis said about the event:

“It is important to us to inspire the younger generation by providing them with real life examples of how STEM skills can be used to have a lasting impact. Our Buchan Offshore Wind project specifically and the floating wind industry in Scotland in general will require a skilled workforce to deliver projects in line with our journey towards Net Zero.”

We are looking forward to attending further local STEM partnership meetings and planning activities for the new academic year, building pathways into STEM from early years by collaborating with both academic and industry partners.
