Meet the Buchan Team: Ian Simms - Head of Consents

Meet our Buchan Offshore Wind team! Ian Simms, our Head of Consents, has extensive experience in developing onshore and offshore wind farms - you can find out more about his career so far, and what he is excited about at Buchan Offshore Wind below:

Education

  • BSc in Marine Biology from the University of Liverpool​

  • MSc in Aquaculture from Stirling University

Previous Experience

  • 10 years working with Arcus, supporting the development, assessment and consenting of onshore and offshore wind farms​

  • Senior Development Manager at 2020 Renewables/Forsa Energy​

  • Senior Development Manager at BayWa r.e.​

  • Offshore Wind Project Manager at BayWa r.e.

Hobbies

A ‘retired’ rugby and latterly touch rugby player, and more recently a lapsed distance runner, I have a long-term plan to find the time to do another marathon one day.

What you are most excited about at Buchan Offshore Wind?

Being at the start of something at this scale is exciting and challenging in equal measure.  Whilst floating wind projects exist, there is nothing at the scale of the floating projects coming forward through ScotWind.  Working with a great team to understand what the new challenges are, and then how we might tackle them, means the job is never dull!
